Research and education at the University of Vienna encompasses a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines, ranging from theology, jurisprudence, economics, computer science, to the humanities, the social as well as natural and life sciences. The University participates in the SOCRATES/ERASMUS programme (more than 300 bilateral agreements), is a member of the UNICA network and has partnership agreements with 50 more universities all over the world.
The Institute of Inorganic Chemistry was founded in 1960 developed from various units from the last decades of the 19 century onwards. The "new" Institute of Inorganic Chemistry was founded in 2005. This was the last innovative step within this historical development. The institute focuses on the role of metal compounds for life and health care and in particular on the development of anticancer-active compounds. Another main point is environmental chemistry.

Vienna
Vienna, with its approximately 2 million inhabitants is situated in the heart of Europe. Its geographic, as well as its geopolitical, location has established Vienna after the Second World War as a center for international meetings. It is a popular location for conferences; moreover, it is one of the United Nations Headquarters, and also home to a number of other international organizations. Vienna is a city on which its ever-changing history has left an indelible mark, reflected also in its rich cultural heritage. Viennese writers, musicians, artists and scientists have forged new directions for the modern world in every field. Today Vienna offers old historical palaces and modern shopping centers, Austrian food and haute cuisine, Viennese coffee houses and Greek restaurants, opera performances and jazz sessions, classical concerts and open air festivals, antique shops and elegant boutiques - all these contrasts are harmonized into something typically Viennese.
Visas and Passports
Holders of passports from Western Europe. North America and Australia will not need a visa to enter Austria. For some nationalities a visa is required; please consult or enquire at your local Austrian embassy or your travel agent. An official invitation letter can be requested from the conference Secretary General for visa purposes. As visa applications can take up to three months, early application is recommended.
